Jake Lenahan Wins Pitcher of the Week!
After a big outing vs Valley, Lenahan takes home weekly award
The New England Collegiate Baseball League is stacked with top-tier pitching, so complete no-hit performances are rare — which made Jake Lenahan's outing vs. the Valley Blue Sox on June 20 all the more impressive. Lenahan tossed six scoreless, no-hit innings with six strikeouts, backed by a clean defensive effort and timely hitting from the Newport lineup. Lenahan has been a force since stepping on the rubber in Newport with 18 striekouts over 16 innings!
Lenahan finished his sophomore college season with Holy Cross having logged 65 innings and 67 strikeouts (his longest outing was 7 1/3 innings and a win over Army on May 10), and he's carried that form to Newport. The no-hit outing earned him NECBL Pitcher of the Week — the first Gull to be honored this summer — and his first win of the season. With a 1.13 ERA so far, Lenahan is building momentum as he awaits his first home start at Cardines Field.

The Newport Gulls, members of the 13-team New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded as the Rhode Island Gulls in 1998 in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Newport in 2001. In addition to recruiting, fielding, and developing a team of the nation's top collegiate baseball athletes and attracting 50,000 fans annually to Cardines Field, the predominantly volunteer organization strives to benefit the community via summer camps, reading programs, fundraisers, scholarships, and charitable donations – totaling over $1 million since 2001. The Gulls are eight-time champions of the NECBL – the winningest franchise in league history – and were ranked as the overall No. 1 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game USA in 2012.
