Hall of Fame Spotlight- Norm Provost

Norm Provost was a cornerstone of the
Newport baseball community for 15
seasons, serving as the Newport Gulls’
head athletic trainer and physical therapist
from 2004 through 2018.
Renowned for his dedication,
professionalism, and compassionate care,
Provost helped generations of collegiate
athletes stay healthy and perform at their
best during their summers in Newport.
Norm’s lasting relationship with the players continued throughout
their college years and beyond, often advising them as parents
and adults; a testament to his strong character commitment to
the Newport Gulls.
Throughout his tenure, the Gulls captured four NECBL
championships, and Norm’s commitment to keeping the team
healthy played a vital role in that success. Whether it was
preparing players before games, helping them recover from
injuries, or providing the highest level of care throughout the
season, he was an invaluable member of the organization. His
loyalty to the Gulls and unwavering passion for his profession
earned the respect and admiration of players, coaches, staff,
and fellow athletic trainers across the league.
Although much of his work took place behind the scenes, Norm’s
impact on the Newport Gulls cannot be overstated. His tireless
dedication, steady presence, and genuine care for every player
made him one of the most respected and beloved figures in
franchise history.
Norm and his wife, Cathy, reside on Hilton Head Island, South
Carolina. Their son Andrew lives in Bluffton, South Carolina,
while their son Patrick resides in Wakefield, Rhode Island.
