Hall of Fame Spotlight- Ben Roberts

Ben Roberts, drafted in the 7th round out of
HS by the Arizona Diamondbacks made the
cross-country trip from Washington State
Cougars baseball to Newport not once, but
twice, becoming one of the most consistent and
productive players in Newport Gulls history.
Over two standout summers in Newport,
Roberts appeared in 74 games wearing a
Gulls uniform and established himself as a
key piece of some of the franchise's most
successful teams.

Roberts dominated the New England Collegiate Baseball League
during back-to-back campaigns, using his gap-to-gap power and
disciplined approach at the plate to become one of the league's
premier hitters. In 2013, he set the NECBL single season record with
18 doubles, set a Gulls record playing in 44 games and scoring 43
runs, with a .312 BA, 5 HR and 35 RBI for one of the most explosive

offenses in franchise history. Roberts consistently sparked the high-
powered Newport lineup, helping the Gulls establish themselves as

one of the top offensive teams in the league that season.
After falling just short of a championship in 2013, Roberts returned to
Newport in 2014 with unfinished business. His leadership, experience,
and offensive production helped guide the Gulls to their sixth NECBL
championship, cementing his legacy as one of the franchise's most
impactful players. Roberts' dedication to returning for a second summer
and helping bring another title to Newport remains a defining part of his
Gulls career and one of the many reasons he is remembered among
the organization's all-time greats.
An exceptional athlete, after playing baseball at Washington State,
Roberts went on to be a wide receiver on the University of Montana
football team and signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL
Tennessee Titans.
Ben lives in Missoula, Montana with his wife Madison and two sons,
Booker and Soren.
