Newport on Wrong Side of Blowout in 11-1 Defeat
Early deficit curses Gulls
After a thrilling 19–2 victory on Friday, the Newport Gulls found themselves on the wrong side of a lopsided result on Sunday, falling 11–1 to the Vermont Mountaineers.
Vermont seized control immediately, erupting for six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Mountaineers continued to add on, scoring two more runs over the next three frames to build an 8–0 advantage after four innings. A three-run sixth inning pushed the lead into double digits and effectively put the game out of reach for Newport.
The Gulls avoided the shutout in the ninth inning when Braxton Tramel drove in the team's lone run with an RBI double.
Newport returns home to Cardines Field on Monday night to host the Bristol Blues. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm with streaming on NECBL+.
