Gulls Snap Two Game Skid On Road Against Blue Sox

After an off-day Saturday, the Newport Gulls traveled out west to Holyoke, Massachusets to face the Valley Blue Sox for the final time this season. In a dominant 9-2 win, the Gulls bested the Blue Sox for the fourth time, snapping a two-game losing streak.

The Newport offense got things going in no time as the team recorded six hits in the very first frame. Brandon Larson (USC), Cade Brown (UCF), and Mason Ligenza (Pittsburgh) all recorded RBIs to give the Gulls a 4-0 early lead.

The pitching was just as strong with David McSweeney (Northeastern) making his first start of the season. The left-hander allowed just one run off of two hits during his four innings of work, picking up six strikeouts. 

The Gulls continued to cause chaos offensively through the middle innings. Ligenza, Caeden Cloud (Kentucky) and Braxton Tramel (ECU) all did some damage, picking up RBIs to add to Newport’s lead.

Jake Kennedy (Oklahoma St.) and Bryce Koch (Louisville) added to the complete effort. The relievers allowed just one hit and one run in the final five innings, helping Newport coast to the win.

The Gulls added two final runs in the 8th to cap off the 9-2 win. Newport aims to keep the momentum moving forward on Monday when the Gulls travel to Martha’s Vineyard, looking for their first win over the Sharks. First pitch at 7:00 pm with streaming on ESPN+.
