Five Gulls Make NECBL All-Star Roster
Three hitters and two pitchers headed to Sanford
The Newport Gulls will be well represented when the best of the New England Collegiate Baseball League gather in Sanford, Maine, for the 2026 NECBL All-Star Game on Sunday, July 26th. The league announced its official rosters today, and the Gulls have earned five selections to the South Division squad, including two starters in the middle infield.
Leading the charge for Newport are starting middle infielders Tristan Salinas and Gus Gandy, who have anchored the Gulls’ lineup all season. Salinas, a second baseman from Rutgers, paces the team with a sizzling .354 batting average and a team-best .979 OPS. His double-play partner, shortstop Gus Gandy of Samford, has emerged as one of the faces of the franchise in 2026. Gandy boasts a .339 average with 20 RBIs while dazzling fans with highlight-reel defensive plays across 27 games.
Outfielder Devan Zirwas of Coastal Carolina rounds out the position player selections for Newport. The versatile left-handed hitter has patrolled all three outfield spots while producing at the plate with a .349 batting average, a team-leading .500 on-base percentage, and 11 stolen bases also tops on the club.
On the mound, the Gulls earned two selections to the South Division pitching staff. Starter Will Taylor of Notre Dame has been one of the premier arms in the entire NECBL this summer. The southpaw has compiled a team-best 40 strikeouts across 23.1 innings pitched in six appearances (five starts) while posting an impressive 1.54 ERA. Joining him is reliever Jake Kennedy of Oklahoma State, who has been utterly dominant out of the Newport bullpen. The right-hander has yet to surrender a single run this season while racking up 19 strikeouts.
